4th of July

Yesterday we celebrated the 4th of July with our neighborhood and friends. What a terrific day! We live in an old neighborhood called Crown Heights where families get together on several occasions throughout the year. We celebrate the Christmas season by lining our streets with luminaries and experiencing a "hayrack" ride through the illuminated night streets. It can be really breath-taking. Then there is the National Night Out when we have a cookout and socialize on several blocks. And of course there is the annual 4th of July Parade where neighbors come together to celebrate our freedom. Children and dogs dress up in cute outfits, wagons and bicycles are found decorated with streamers, flags, and anything else red, white, or blue. I love our neighborhood.

This year Katelyn and Paige, along with our neighbor Arabella, dressed up in adorable tutu dresses that Arabella's mom made. I lost count of how many people took pictures of the girls. Our "Little Firecrackers" won 1st prize in the children's contest. Arabella's brother took second for his decorated motorcycle sporting the American flag attached to the back.
